Leashes and Leads

Dog Leashes  also called dog leads  lead lines  or just plain leads are used for the training  control  and restraint of a dog. With a wide array of designer dog leads now available  the leash has become as much fashion statement as functional equipment.

Dog leads are used whenever you want to take your dog out of the home. All dogs need some form of exercise and this usually means taking them out for daily walks. It is not realistic to simply take your dog out without a lead as they could easily run into the road, run up to strangers and other dogs and generally just get out of control as they become excited. So a dog lead is needed to keep control of your dog and to keep them with you. Dog leads are a necessary accessory when you keep a pet dog.  It are used whenever you want to take your dog out of the home.

Handmade dog leads, especially those handcrafted by skilled leather workers are more than mere accoutrements of necessity. They are minor works of art reflecting well on the style, taste and quality of the dog owner and enhancing the image of the dog. There are many types of leads available. Leather leads are the most popular choice as it is long lasting and sturdy and do not cause any allergies to the skin of your pet. Leather dog leads also come in various patterns and colors to cater to your diverse. Though these could be slightly expensive than nylon or plastic leather leads are highly durable. Make sure to keep it clean by wiping the dirt off with a wet towel and apply oil and get it polished to keep in proper shape. It should not be kept in hot places as the leather leads could crack and break off. The dirt and mud accumulated along the stitching of the lead can be removed using a soft bristle brush

Another type of  dog leads  is the slip lead which is very simple lead that has buckles which can be adjusted from time to time to suit your dog’s neck. It is
normally used for training or in the show ring. There are leads made of leather and they are the most in demand as the assist in keeping complete control over the dog and prevent it from going away from you. There are dog leads make of leather which has a great disadvantage as it may pierce the dog’s neck and there by causing injury. It is a cheap one but not so comfortable. The leather leads are the best and the comfortable for your dog not causing injury to the dog.

Extending dog leads that enable the length of the lead to be altered have been widely available for a number of years. Generally, the leads are rotated around a reel within a handle part of the lead and a member can be pushed against the reel to prevent movement thereof. A separate locking mechanism then has to be operated to maintain the member in this position thereby preventing further movement of the reel and thus maintaining the lead at a given length. However, these types of leads can be difficult to operate because they involve two actions, pushing a trigger onto the reel and then moving a further member, for example in the form of a switch, to lock the trigger against the reel.
