Question by wendella: How do you control a dog that keeps getting off his leash? Why doesn’t animal control do anything?
I have a neighbor who has a dog that keeps getting off his leash and going into other neighbor’s yard. I live on a busy street and today he nearly got killed by walking out in the middle of traffic. The neighbor will not answer the door and I feel the dog is being neglected. I feel bad for the dog; however, other neighbors have made similar complaint to animal control. Today I called Animal control and they claimed they were so backed up (a day behind) and over 6 hours ago, the complaint was made. And still the dog is off the leash, now sleeping in the back yard. He’s a wierd dog, sometimes he’s nice, but often times he barks and snapps, sometimes threatening people passing by on the sidewalk and the dogs they are walking on their leash. The neighbor will not talk to me about it. She feels it’s not my buisness, but I consider it a threat. But still, animal control just won’t do anything. I don’t even feel safe in my own yard. Any advice other than moving.

Mini-Poo and Mini-Me LOVE this lead!,
This lead is designed for an average-sized person with a large dog.
HOWEVER — I am an under average-sized 58-yr-old female: 4′ 11″. My miniature poodle is not large: 13 LB, 13 inches from withers.
It works GREAT for my Mini-Poodle and Mini-Me. LOL
FEATURES: the lead is lightweight, heavily stitched, VERY sturdy yet has a nice, soft hand. I looked EVERYWHERE for a sturdy, soft, 18″ traffic lead. This lead is the best I’ve ever found: better than leather, metal chain, cable, braided nylon…everything else I’ve tried! I can hang this lead with collar attached to my key holder at my front door. It doesn’t drag the floor. It looks attractive and expensive.
SWIVEL SNAP: the swivel-snap hook is sturdy enough for an elegant Great Dane, but not too heavy for my enthusiastic Mini-Poodle. I like the hook’s large size because it is easier to snap on and off his collar whilst he is wiggling from head to toe. I think the weighty hook makes my pooch feel subordinate. LOL
LENGTH: this length is perfect for my needs. My Rolex tries to go everywhere at once and this lead never gets wound up or tangled. Always having him at my side makes training MUCH easier and safer. He just can’t roam or get into trouble with this short, quality lead; yet he may stand a small distance away to do his necessary business. He is not able to slyly gnaw on his lead if I want to stop and smell the roses.
TOY DOG: naturally this would be overkill, unless your toy-pup is a muscle dog sporting a spiked collar of course! But if you have a small to extra large dog that you want to keep close to you, this will work beautifully.
TALL PERSON WITH A SHORT DOG: this lead will work for you if you work for the circus, you have monkey arms and your dog likes to walk on his hind legs.
SHORT PERSON WITH A TALL DOG: this lead could work but wouldn’t you rather ride dog-back?
PRICE/VALUE: O-M-Goodness! What a bargain, even with shipping. For the price, I was afraid this lead would be junk. How pleasantly surprised I was at the quality!
MY ADVICE FOR GETTING THE PERFECT SIZE TRAFFIC LEAD: whilst both of you stand side by side, measure your dog from withers to your fist held at your side. This measurement is the very shortest lead you can safely use. Add extra inches to allow for lying down or a little wiggle room, if you like.
